A native of the United Kingdom, Stephen has lived and worked across North America and now makes his home in Toronto, Canada. He has been a professional violin maker for fifteen years and trained at the Newark School of Violin Making in the UK after a brief stint at the violin making school of the former London College of Furniture. After graduating, Stephen worked with Philip Perret in Katonah, NY and then in San Francisco for a number of years before settling in Toronto in 2008.
One of Stephen’s violins won a certificate of merit at the 2014 VSA competition in Indianapolis and this year, he was admitted into the membership of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. He is a regular participant in the VSA’s Oberlin violin making workshops.
Stephen opened his own studio in Toronto in 2010. He spent many years repairing and restoring instruments as well as making them but Stephen now focuses on making quartet family instruments. His instruments are played by musicians across North America.
